Accomplishments

2004

A group of dedicated bowhunters met with then Minister of Environment Bill Barisoff to discuss ways bowhunters issues could be represented to the government. Minister Barisoff stated that if the bowhunters of BC would unite that they would be considered as stakeholders with respect to wildlife management.

Founding members were from several regions of the province

Kirk Joyal, Courtenay
Ted Kennedy, Surrey
Bruce Olson, Trail
Ernie Marven, Keremeos
Monte Evin, Cranbrook
Travis Cochran, Golden

2005

Initial membership drive began.
Executive formation began.

2006

Executive formation completed with the exception of a director for Region 2. We are looking for someone to take this position.

Spring:

The UBBC website developed and launched - www.ubbc.ca.

The UBBC was introduced to government in Victoria and all eight regions. We requested that we be consulted with respect to bowhunting issues.

Earlier this year the MoE consulted the UBBC on equipment requirements for hunting big game with archery tackle. We were asked to submit a short article on equipment for larger animals. This was published in this year’s Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis.

The UBBC submitted an alternative Youth Hunting Opportunity Proposal to Victoria and received positive feedback. The proposal recommends that a youth season be developed for young bowhunters in archery season and young firearm hunters in the GOS.

Summer:

The UBBC was invited to participate in the development of a management plan for the Todagin Wildlife Management Area in northwestern BC. Region 6 director Ricardo Corriea will follow up on this issue.
